Healthy Energy Drink Alternatives
I know that a whole lotta people out there are addicted to energy drinks. This is a direct result of our hustle and grind culture. I know many people who drink several energy drinks a day, whether it be Monster, Red Bull or Rockstar.
I understand the need for a boost of energy, especially now that I am in my forties and perimenopausal. However, the popular energy drinks are chock full of sugars and ingredients that resemble a science experiment (despite what their website says). They are designed to keep you hooked, because you crash after consuming all that sugar, despite the other stimulants like caffeine, taurine, and ginseng. It's a viscous cycle.
The ingredients in Monster Rosa
Carbonated water, citric acid, arthritis, taurine, sodium citrate, flavours, pan ginseng root extract, caffeine, sorbic acid, sucralose, benzoic acid, niacin amide, acesulfame potassium, d-calcium pantothenate, vegetable juice, inositol, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cyanocobalamin.
The ingredients in Redbull
Carbonated water, sugar, glucose-fructose, citric acid, taurine, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, caffeine, niacin, pantothenate, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, artificial flavour, colour.
If you are suffering from a medial condition, consuming these drinks are not beneficial to your body, mind, and spirit. Like I said, I understand that sometimes in our lives, we need a boost. That's why I am going to give you some of my favourite healthy'ish energy drink alternatives that will keep you vibrating at a higher frequency.
My Top 5 Energy Drink Alternatives
1) Mate Libre
I absolutely love this brand. There is no sugar. artificial flavours or sweeteners. The energy comes from the yerba mate tea. Without all the other sugars and stimulants, so you get a gentle boost in energy and mental focus without the crash.
2) Guayaki Yerba Mate
I love the flavours. However, there is too much sugar in these for me to consume regularly. But, they contain a lot less sugar than Monster or Redbull. They are widely available in stores. As a treat, this is my go to.
For those of you who don't like yerba mate, I have got you covered. Read on. 🥳
3) Rviita
Another one of my faves. These energy drinks are made with green or black teeth and sweetened with honey for the win.
4) Waísamama Guayusa Co
Guayusa is a leaf from the Amazon and is known as yerba mates "smoother cousin," as it doesn't contain any of the bitter tannins. It has an uplifting blend of caffeine, l-theanine, and polyphenol antioxidants.
5) Zevia
The zero calorie, zero sweetener energy drink. This does contain caffeine and is sweetened with stevia leaf.
